Goodbye

After writing for over a year now on technology, I’m calling it quits here at the GrantBlog and will shortly be moving over to another technology-oriented blog that’s currently in the works.

The GrantBlog hasn’t been what I hoped it would be over the year it’s been around, and I can’t come to a conclusion on what I should do with the active concept I created here, so I am sadly abandoning it.

While I don’t want to give too much away about what’s coming, it will cover today’s top things in the world of tech, but in a more concise and abbreviated form (not quite Twitter if that’s what you’re thinking). It’ll have a fancy new design, and if I can make them join, a couple new authors as well. If you’re also a geek like me and would like to post an occasional article or two, shoot me and email to grant [at] nextgenwebmedia dot com and we’ll see what we can work out.

I’m also writing for MakeUseOf.com as a contributor and you can always catch my latest and greatest works there, but in the meantime, thanks for reading.

The GrantBlog recently has a prestegious blogroll addition by City of Pasadena Public Information Officer (a.k.a. PasadenaPIO) Ann Erdman on her blog, Pasadena PIO. I’m also Twitter friends with Ann as well on my Twitter account, gmd8 (come and follow me!) and hers, pasadenapio. New Design For The GrantBlog!

After sticking with the little snowy and Winter design for quite some time, it was time for a change and the GrantBlog is now operating on a shiny new, streamlined and elegant template which I think people will find a lot more user-friendly. In addition to viewing Twitter and my other feeds (including my MakeUseOf author feed), I’ve let go of Disqus for handling my comments and moved the blog to a new domain. You can still use the old address to access the site though. I’d love to hear your feedback on the new site though. Please let me know what you think with the little “Get In Touch” box on the homepage or reply in the comments. Thanks for your visit!

Back From Break!

Hello! It’s nice to be back typing on the GrantBlog and nice to see you back. I do apologize for my Christmas/Kwanza/Channukah/December Holidays/New Year’s ‘09 absense, but I had to take care of family and do some secret internet-things. It was a really fun holiday though, and I certianly had a great time! What did you do? Anything fun? (HEY- I’m not trying to be scary/nosy. I’m just trying to get some fun feedback from my readers!). BUT, in the meantime, I’d like to wish everyone a belated “happy holidays!”. Also, in other news, The GrantBlog is finishing up its new design. Yay! Because, even though it is still Winter and it is very cold, it isn’t cold enough to keep the GrantBlog’s current theme.

But, let me know what you did for the holidays! I’d really like to know. Anything fun happen? Just reply in the comments. Blog-at-you-later (my corny new catch-phrase that will be used for the last time right now)!

It’s WordPress 2.7!

Welcome to the GrantBlog, now using WordPress 2.7 (as opposed to 2.6.5)! For the first time ever, the GrantBlog is now operating on WordPress 2.7. Yay!

WP2.87 has several new features including a completely re-designed back-end (the secret cave where I write my posts) as well as several performance updates. My opinion? Sure, the new admin interface is great, but for me (even though I am really tech-savvy) it will take a while to get used to. Finally, because I actually have more homework to do tonight, I wanted to thank WordPress for adding an auto-update feature to their newest release. Even though I used to update WP through Fantastico (in cPanel), I’ve had to update some of my client’s sites who do not have cPanel- and let me tell you that that upgrading was a PAIN IN THE !!! I apologize for that- what I meant to say was a pain in the NECK!

Anyway, have fun on the not-so-new-for-you GrantBlog!

Saying Goodbye To A Not-So-Old Friend

By now, you might have guessed that the GrantBlog is being powered by the famous WordPress blogging and CMS (Content Managment System) software. Now, first of all, we’re not trying to say we are getting rid of WordPress, because that would be insanity. But, we are getting rid of WordPress’ kind of right-hand-man, the site’s SummerFruit Template. We haven’t decided on an exact replacement template (shhh, that’s our little secret) but until then, we’ll be switching to “holiday mode” with a new template starting tomorrow.

Do you have any suggestions as to what our new template should be? We’d love to hear what you think! Write in the comments what you think our new template should be and we’ll be sure to review your suggestions. Until tomorrow, goodbye SummerFruit!

Hey there! Welcome to the blog. I assume that if you’re visiting the GrantBlog you know me somehow. Anyway, let me get started by saying thanks for coming. If it weren’t for YOU (yes, you) my blog would just be a pointless little group of files sitting on a server in Texas wasting a few bits of hard drive space. But putting that aside, YOU are here, and you are reading this. So thank you for visiting.

Now, let’s get to the meat of the steak! In my newly created (duh!) blog, I’ll talk about fun and weird things in my day (oh you just wait), cool websites I encounter, and whatever else I think is GrantBlogworthy. So, please bear with me, and join me as I explore the net and share it with you too. Oh, and don’t forget to comment!
